friday food fetish: kit's organic bars

it has been one hell of a challenge to find energy/protein/snack/nutrition bars that meet my dietary criteria:

  • gluten free
  • dairy free
  • soy free
  • low fomap friendly

if a bar was gluten free and dairy free, it almost always had soy in it. or another killer ingredient the bar would have is agave syrup (a super tummy trigger for me).

i had nearly given up (and started trying to create my own bars) when i found kit's organic bars, a line underneath clif bars.

these bars have at max six ingredients and they are all whole ingredients you can pronounce. for example, my favorite flavor is the peanut butter bar, and it's ingredients are: organic dates, organic peanuts, organic almonds, sea salt. that's it.

i have been able to buy them for $1 each at whole foods, so they're not crazy expensive like most bars with whole ingredients. they're easy to store and grab on the go, and all of the flavors are delish (the berry almond tastes like a blueberry muffin, i swear).

while these bars don't meet the criteria for low fodmap, i'm happy to say i haven't had any known issues with them thus far.

bottom line:

these are my absolute favorite bars. they're easy to find, easy on the wallet and all the flavors are great. i love that there is less than six ingredients in each bar, and i can pronounce and identify all of them. the best part is that i haven't had any tummy troubles with these bars so far, so i'll continue to enjoy them and rave about them!

have you tried kit's organic bars? what do you think of them?

  1. I've never actually seen these out when I've been shopping, but I can't say that I've looked. Interesting. I'm grateful that I don't have too much dietary restrictions, though I do avoid soy and try to keep dairy to a minimum. I couldn't imagine having to read labels so closely - more power to ya :)
