over the last month, i have concluded (through lots of trial and error) that i have a dairy allergy, or am lactose intolerant. this sucks, because i love me some cheese and ice cream. the good thing is - finding ice cream substitutes that still taste good are really easy to do (unlike cheese, which will be a blog post all in its own). while i was in costa rica, i consumed a lot of coconut milk and liked it so much i started to buy it back here in michigan. since coconut milk is safe for my stomach, i started to look for other products made with coconut milk and came across my new food fetish and my ice cream substitute. behold....
so delicious makes amazing, dairy free, coconut milk ice cream and ice cream bars! i was a little skeptical at first, but since i love the taste of coconut anyway, i figured "what the hell" and was pleasantly delighted. we tried the pomegranate chip flavor above and it is awesome. a sweet berry taste, with a coconut "shadow" of flavor, if you will and of course, chocolate. plus, this stuff is packed (i mean packed) with fiber, and you can't say that about most frozen treats! 1 serving (1/2 cup) is 4 weight watchers points. totally worth it, and i can't wait to try all the flavors.
my obsession with the line of so delicious frozen treats started with these magical ice cream bars. i originally bought these bad boys on a whim, as i was craving chocolate and found my eyes glued to the "100 calories" promise on the box.
for only 100 calories, these little sandwiches of stomach heaven are awesome. satisfies my chocolate craving, my ice cream craving and has that smooth hint of coconut that i just love. one sandwich is only 2 (yes, i said 2) weight watchers points, so really - what's not to love? even my mom and sister enjoyed them, and they are anti-anything that is relatively off the normal food path. my only complaint is that these are small, but when it comes to portion control they're just the right size. it's my stomach and eye for food that needs to adjust, not the sandwiches (although it would be easier if it was the sandwiches, right)?
on the cost side, this line of desserts is more on the extravagant side, but its totally worth it if you need a frozen treat that is dairy free and tastes delicious.
bottom line? worth the splurge. i currently have a pint of ice cream and a box of vanilla minis waiting for me in my freezer at home!
